After bearing in mind The Callisto Protocol Recreation Canceled Unlock In Japan

Krafton announced, The Callisto Protocol game was canceled in Japan. This comes after the developers failed to find common ground about censorship with the country’s rating agency, CERO.

This announcement was made by Krafton as the publisher, along with the developers of this spiritual sequel to Dead Space, Strike Distance Studios.

“Callisto Protocol has decided to stop releasing the Japanese version,” reads a statement posted to Reddit.

“Until now, the CERO rating was unbeatable. We decided it would no longer be able to provide the experience you need. We hope everyone in Japan will understand,” they said.

Krafton and Strike Distance added, if gamers have continued to pre-order, then they will return the money.

Reportedly, Strike Distance was unable or unwilling to make any changes to the game, which allowed the game to be rated and released in Japan.

CERO assigns a “Z” rating to games that are only allowed to be sold to players aged 18 years and over.

Strike Distance did not comment on why The Callisto Protocol failed to get a rating. However, this is likely related to the violent content in the game.

CERO is known to be strict about the level of bloody content that is allowed. Amputation is prohibited content.

The Last of Us Part 2 in 2020, for example, removed all mutilation scenes for the Japanese version, as well as edited sex scenes, in order to get a “Z” rating from CERO.

Strike Distance itself once boasted about the level of brutality in The Callisto Protocol. Studio head Glen Schofield told Eurogamer this June even claiming the game is a “gore machine.”

Maybe, Strike Distance assessing the experience of playing this game will change drastically if the content is removed.

The Callisto Protocol itself is a survival horror game that is planned for release on December 2, 2022, with Schofield as the director. Previously, Schofield also handled the Dead Space series.

The Callisto Protocol is set in the year 2320, in a prison colony called Black Iron and managed by the United Jupiter Company, and is located on Jupiter’s moon Callisto.

Players will be an inmate Jacob Lee who is being held in Black Iron. He finds himself in the middle of an alien invasion, which appears to be the work of a prison warden.

The Callisto Protocol will be released for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.

On the other hand, CD Projekt Red announced that they are working on a remake of the first game The Witcher, which will use Unreal Engine 5.

” That’s right, the game that started it all is being remade from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5,” wrote CD Projekt Red on the official website for The Witcher.

The Polish game studio said the remake version of The Witcher is in the early development stages at Fool’s Theory studio, involving veteran staff involved in The Witcher series.

CD Projekt Red also claims to provide full creative supervision for this project.

The Witcher Remake project itself is codenamed “Canis Majoris” and is still in its early stages. The developers also said they made sure the game was made with great care and attention to detail.

“The Witcher is where we all started, for CD Projekt Red. It was the first game we made, and it was a big moment for us at that time,” said Adam Badowski, Head of Studio, CD Projekt Red.

“Coming back to this place and remaking the game for the next generation of gamers to experience it, it feels just as big, if not bigger,” added Badowski.

He revealed, interestingly, that several people in Fool’s Theory had been involved in the game The Witcher so they knew very well the main source.

The first game The Witcher was first released in 2007 and is based on the fantasy novel series of the same name by Andrzej Sapkowski.

Getting a positive response from gamers and raising the name of The Witcher franchise, this game continues to its sequels, namely The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings in 2011 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in 2015.
